On August 6th, the Orthodox Church celebrates the great Feast of Transfiguration of Our Lord. According to the beliefs, on this day Jesus Christ transformed before his three apostles, Peter, James, and John, to show them his heavenly glory. On Mount Tabor in Galilee, he appeared to them in a transformed form – his face glowed and his clothes gleamed. According to popular beliefs on the night of August 6th, the sky opens and the Lord shows and the wishes of all believers shall be fulfilled. In the past, our ancestors also believed that the sun turns its back on the summer and looks towards the autumn, and the migrating birds gather in flocks to go to the warmer lands. On the Transfiguration of Our Lord, the Dormition Fast is not so strict and it allows consumption of fish. The first bunches of grapes turned ripe in the southern lands of the country are sanctified in the temples. We, the Simona Tavern, have prepared a special menu for this traditional Bulgarian Holiday. Welcome.
